House Judiciary Committee Advances Articles of Impeachment Against Trump

In a significant development, the House Judiciary Committee has voted to advance articles of impeachment against former President Donald Trump. The committee, after hours of deliberation, approved two articles related to abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

The vote largely followed party lines, with Democrats supporting the measure and Republicans opposing it. The full House of Representatives is expected to vote on the articles next week.

"The evidence against the President is overwhelming," said the committee chair. "We have a constitutional duty to hold the President accountable for his actions."

The articles of impeachment specifically cite Trump's alleged attempts to pressure foreign governments to investigate political rivals and his subsequent efforts to obstruct the congressional inquiry into those actions.

Republican members of the committee criticized the process as "rushed" and "partisan," arguing that the evidence presented did not rise to the level of impeachable offenses.

Legal experts note that this marks only the fourth time in American history that articles of impeachment against a president have been approved by the House Judiciary Committee.

If the full House approves the articles, the matter will proceed to the Senate for trial, where a two-thirds majority would be required for conviction and removal from office.
